7.0 Liter LS7 Engine
The latest iteration of the small-block V8 displaces big-block cylinder capacity at 7.0 Liters (427 cubic inches) and big-block power at 500 hp at 6200 rpm. It also benches 475 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. It is the most powerful production passenger car engine ever produced by Chevrolet or GM. The engine features a high 7000-rpm redline with fuel cutoff at 7100 rpm. Helping to create its high power and revving capability are details such as computer numerical control (CNC) intake and exhaust ports, which help the engine maintain a higher airflow. In addition, the intake valves and connecting rods are made out of high-strength lightweight titanium.Dry-Sump Oil System -
Like its C6.R sibling, the aluminum block LS7 features a dry-sump oil system, which maintains the oil reservoir outside the engine as opposed to inside the crankcase. A dry-sump system eliminates the oil starvation suffered by many conventional engines when subjected to extreme acceleration, braking and cornering forces.Built by Hand - All LS7 engines are assembled by hand at GM's new performance build center in Wixom, Mich. The build process includes deck-plate honing of the cylinders-a procedure normally associated with the building of racing engines that is almost unheard of in a production-vehicle engine.Stout ABS Braking Power - A high-performance sports car requires strong brakes. The Corvette Z06 has them, featuring six-piston front calipers and four-piston rears, all of which engage large cross-drilled rotors.Front Air Inlet -
The Corvette Z06 front air inlet allows cool air into the engine compartment, which helps the engine achieve 500 horsepower.
